for 20 million citizens
(CNN)Lawmakers in Florida are tired of the whole “fall back” and “spring forward” rigamarole. So they’ve approved a bill to keep Daylight Saving Time going throughout the year in their state.
In 1 minute our elected officials say screw you to it’s citizens and do what they want.
It took the state Senate less than a minute Tuesday to pass the “Sunshine Protection Act.” There were only two dissenters. (The House passed it 103-11 on February 14.)The bill now goes to the desk of Gov. Rick Scott — but it’s far from a done deal after that,Even if the governor approves, a change like this will literally take an act of Congress.Florida will then join Hawaii and most of Arizona, the two places that are exempt from the Uniform Time Act of 1966. The Act established the system of uniform Daylight Saving Time throughout the US.
This is a reason why CNN is not a good news outlet. Florida decides to keep DST, but without asking 20 million of Floridians and CNN talks about how BAD DST is.
A time whose time has passed?
Efforts to kill off daylight saving time are nearly as old as the time shift itself. And many of the commonly offered rationales for daylight saving time (yes, it’s “saving,” not “savings”) no longer hold true. For instance, one reason Congress used in enacting daylight saving time is that it saves energy.
Rule #1: Slow Down — Seriously!
At times, it seems everyone wants to be in the fast lane. Unfortunately, speeding makes you far more likely to get involved in a crash. When driving at a high rate of speed, you can’t react as quickly to obstacles in the road. Driving too fast is one of the most common ways to become just another statistic.
The NHTSA has published a Speeding Fact Sheet. According to their data, consistently around ⅓ of driving fatalities in the United States involve speeding. This puts driving too fast at the top of the list of things you don’t want to do behind the wheel.
Keep in mind that the faster you drive, the longer the distance your travel during reaction time. Not only must you be on the lookout for other vehicles, but you also have to stay alert for animals crossing the road, distractions in the car, and more. So, if another vehicle swerves into your lane or a bee flies in through the window and stings you on the hand, slower driving speeds will lead to an increased chance of your ability to respond safely.
Being late to school or work definitely prompts some people to want to speed. Instead of taking a grave risk by rushing, leave home a few minutes earlier than usual and drive the speed limit — 55, stay alive!
Rule #2: Become a Defensive Driver
Defensive drivers are always prepared for emergencies. When driving, you should develop a habit of looking head. This will help improve your reaction time, thus helping you to better respond to road hazards. It’s also a good idea to yield when necessary. Don’t hesitate to let the other driver go first.
Perhaps the most important aspect of being a defensive driver involves having patience. You should always maintain a sense of calm. Don’t allow drivers with road rage to throw you off track.
The impact of safe driving techniques is why many auto insurance providers offer discounts for individuals who have taken a defensive driving course in the state of Florida. These courses are available both on and offline and you will learn basic defensive driver’s safety techniques.
- Defensive Driving Techniques
- Alcohol & Drug Abuse, Violations, and Safety
- Florida Traffic Laws
- Rules of the Road
- Sharing the Road with Other Drivers, Motorcyclists, Bicyclists, and Pedestrians
In a program like this, you will learn more than you ever could from just taking your basic driver’s exam. It’s a surprise these classes aren’t mandatory, especially for inexperienced drivers.
Rule #3: Exercise Extreme Caution When it Rains
When you encounter bad weather, it’s especially important to drive with caution. Although it rarely snows in Florida, you must stay prepared for rainstorms during monsoon season. Heavy downpours and gusty wind can dramatically reduce visibility.
As a matter of fact, in the United States, according to NHTSA, nearly 5 times more fatal crashed happen in the rain than in the snow. Furthermore, in Florida, in 2016, there were 169 fatal auto accidents when it was raining.
This is How to Drive Safely in the Rain:
When driving in the rain, it’s essential to keep a firm grip on the steering wheel and stay alert. Because vehicles don’t stop as quickly on slippery surfaces, it’s also crucial to stay a safe distance away from the vehicle ahead of you. Moreover, don’t forget to turn on your headlights. Aside from making your vehicle more visible to other drivers, it can prevent you from getting a ticket.
And, keep in mind Rule Number One. Driving at safe speeds is even more crucial when the roads are slippery. Your tires aren’t going to grip the roads as well as they will in normal driving conditions. Sudden stops in a vehicle are safer when your speed is lower.
Rule #4: Never Drive When You‘re Tired
According to an experienced attorney, sleep-deprived driving is a recipe for disaster. The CDC says that approximately 1 out of 25 adult drivers may have fallen asleep at the wheel last week in the United States. Driving while drowsy can be just as dangerous as driving under the influence of intoxicants. When exhausted while at the wheel, your level of concentration plummets.
There are some people who are at a higher risk of driving while drowsy. So, if you fall into one of these categories, it might save your life to pay extra attention to this rule.
- Drivers who simply don’t get enough sleep (insomniacs, new parents, etc.)
- Commercial drivers operating tow trucks, tractor trailers, buses, long-haul trucks, etc.
- Shift workers who aren’t on a regular 9:00-5:00 schedule.
- Drivers with untreated sleep disorders (sleep apnea, narcolepsy, etc.)
- Patients prescribed medication that makes them drowsy.
Warning Signs That You’re Driving in an Unsafe Condition:
While some of these signs may seem obvious, if you’re not paying attention, you could miss them. Some signs that it’s time for you to find a spot to pull over are yawning or blinking frequently, difficulty remembering the past few miles driven, missing your exit, drifting from your lane, hitting a rumble strip on the side of the road.
If you find yourself experiencing any of these symptoms, check yourself immediately. If there is a licensed passenger in the car, it might be time to let them take over. If not, find the next place to pull over and get some rest.
This is How to Overcome Tired Driving:
The best way to overcome tired driving is to get plenty of rest. Aim to get at least the recommended seven hours of sleep per night. And, never drive if you question your ability to not only stay awake but more importantly pay attention behind the wheel. While it may seem impossible at times, it’s simple and your life is worth more than whatever requires you to drive across town.
If you do suffer from a sleep disorder that makes it difficult to get to work safely, consult with a physician to find a solution. In the meantime, use public transportation or Uber/ Lyft to get to and from work.
Rule #5: Focus on the Task at Hand When Behind the Wheel
With so much technology around us, it’s easier than ever to become distracted while at the wheel. And most driving happens when your brain is on autopilot — but that’s also how accidents occur. You may have noticed that paying attention has become a theme in this driver’s safety guide; that’s because driving is a task that requires your complete concentration. A momentary loss of focus can lead to a major disaster.
Even simple things, such as eating a burger or adjusting the volume on the stereo can take your attention off the road. While there are a number of potential driving distractions, cell phone use is by far the most dangerous. When texting while driving, you’re essentially driving blind. Just pay attention and you’ll have less to worry about.
According to the DMV, texting while driving is the leading cause of death in teens, 42% of which said, in 2015, that they had texted behind the wheel. The previous year, 26% of all auto accidents involved the use of a cell phone. A minimum of 9 people are killed and 1,000 injured every day by a distracted driver.
This is How to Stay Focused on Driving:
There are three types of driving distractions that can be dangerous: visual, manual, and cognitive. Anything that takes your eyes off the road, hands off the wheel, and/ or your focus away from safe driving should be avoided at all costs.
- Avoid the use of your cell phone completely when driving.
- Wait until you get to your destination or pull over before eating, applying makeup, checking your hair in the mirror, or anything else that takes your focus away from the road.
- Pull over before adjusting seatbelts and vehicle controls including the radio station.
- Never turn your head to look at other passengers while driving.
- Avoid driving when you are highly emotional (sad, angry, etc.).
Remember that even singing along to the radio can be a distraction from your responsibilities as a driver. So, keep your eyes on the road, your hands on the wheel, and your mind on the task in front of you. Learning to pay attention when getting from point A to point B could save your life or someone else’s.
Rule #6: Keep up With Auto Maintenance
Even if you are the best driver in the world, a poorly maintained vehicle puts you in jeopardy. According to the NHTSA, about 33% of auto accidents involve only one vehicle, which puts you at risk with a poorly-maintained vehicle. But, it also puts other drivers at risk.
If your brakes go out while you’re coming up to a stop light, you could cause a major pile-up in the middle of an intersection. And, if your tire blows out while you’re driving on the freeway, there’s no telling how many injuries this might cause. To ensure your safety and that of drivers sharing the road with you, it is your responsibility to maintain your vehicle.
Perhaps it’s a good idea to spend less money on your stereo system and window tinting, and more on engine and body maintenance. Below are some of the critical checkpoints for maintaining your vehicle so you can stay safe on the road.
Auto Maintenance Checklist:
Brakes – Your brakes are of the utmost importance. During panic situations on the road, you need the maximum stopping power. In the event that you hear your brakes squealing or grinding, have them inspected immediately. If anything is wrong, they are worn, or soon to be, have them replaced with haste.
Tires – Tire care is equally crucial. While low tread depth decreases traction, underinflated tires are more prone to experiencing a sudden blowout. So, your tires should be inspected by a professional annually to ensure a dependable condition. When you need to replace them, do so promptly. And, don’t buy used tires unless there is no other option.
Headlights & Blinkers – Your vehicle’s headlights are another crucial safety feature, designed to keep you and other drivers safe on the road. While you may be able to see fine with only one headlight, oncoming drivers could get a false sense of their distance from you on the road or even mistake your car or truck for a motorcycle. Be sure that all of your headlights and blinkers work properly before taking your automobile onto the road.
Routine Tune-Ups & Fluid Changes – Check the owner’s manual for your vehicle to find out how often the manufacturer recommends waiting between routine tune-ups and oil changes. Never let the next oil change slip your mind. In fact, try to make it in to have your oil checked about 100 miles before it’s recommended. Furthermore, don’t simply ignore a check engine light. You never know what the root of the problem could be.
Final Thoughts
Following these rules will greatly improve your odds of staying safe while driving. But, as with many things in life, there are no guarantees. If you are in an accident, make sure to consult with an experienced auto accident attorney who can represent you if legal action needs to be taken. Stay safe out there!

]]>This was supposed to be the night’s entertainment, but speaking with reporters on Friday, Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber had a less flattering take on the spectacle.
“Insane stupidity,” he said.
If you think you have seen it all, well we have not. What were they thinking?
Partygoers at Mokai Lounge in South Beach saw a go-go dancer wearing black lingerie attempting to ride a white horse through the crowd. The woman fell down as a man struggled to control the panicked horse.

“Disgusting. No words to describe what I feel when I watch this,” Sofia Jaramillo wrote on Instagram. “I hope they get what they deserve.”
City officials revoked Mokai’s business license Friday. Miami-Dade police officers tracked the white horse and a veterinarian determined the animal was unharmed and safe at a private farm. The dancer wasn’t injured.
Miami Beach city manager issued the order to revoke Mokai Lounge’s Business Tax Receipt and Certificate of Use.
“I was disgusted and offended that any legitimate businessperson would think this was an appropriate action to take,” Morales said.
“I fully support the immediate actions taken by the City Manager and his staff to ensure that this is remedied quickly,” Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber said.

When Fontainebleau housekeeper Odelie Paret clocked out of her 14-room-a-day cleaning shift Feb. 6, her day took a turn for the extraordinary.
A mysterious woman who had called the previous day had arranged for her to have a massage at the Fontainebleau’s four-star spa, Lapis, and dinner at steakhouse StripSteak by Michael Mina.
She was going to get a surprise of a lifetime. And why not?
After dinner, a car was waiting to take Paret and a friend to Brickell City Centre, where they waited until the shopping center closed.
It was there, standing before Saks Fifth Avenue, that a hand touched her shoulder.
It belonged to Drake.
I ALWAYS JUST SAW HIM ON THE TV. SO I SAID, ‘DRAKE!’ IT MADE ME HAPPY…I THANK HIM SO MUCH.
You never know what people read and how it will touch a person.
The hip-hop star was inspired by a Miami Herald story detailing the plight of the Fontainebleau Miami Beach housekeepe. Paret said she was shocked to see him.
Paret said Drake and Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, who grew up in Miami and attended Miami Norland High School, arranged for a shopping spree for her and two other local women.
In a video from Drake’s Snapchat, he can be seen walking around Saks with Brown saying, “We took the ladies out for a nice little shopping spree… Giving back.”
The giving was only the beginning.
The excursion was one in a string of surprise good deeds by the Toronto native in South Florida in the past week.
In Miami, he donated $25,000 to Miami Senior High School and pledged to buy everyone uniforms designed by his clothing label. He gave University of Miami student Destiny James a $50,000 scholarship.
And homeless shelter Lotus Village in Overtown got a $50,000 check, plus $150 Target gift cards for all 130 women who live there, plus toys and games for all 140 kids.
Drake reflected on the giving spree on Instagram, writing on Thursday: “Last 3 days were the best I have had in a very long time…there’s nothing like seeing people experience a joyful moment when you can tell they need it the most.”
So what does one buy when Drake is paying?
When someone is giving, how do you react?
Paret said she was “frozen” when she was told she had 45 minutes and no dollar limit on what she wanted to buy at Saks.
She went for the clothes section first, but couldn’t find anything in her size. Then she tried the shoes. Heels wouldn’t work — she needs to be comfortable, she said. Nor would a pair of floral sandals.
Work was on her mind when she arrived from her whirlwind night with Drake, she said.
It was 1:30 a.m. when she returned to Opa-locka, and she’d have three hours before she would have to be up to catch the bus again.
Very inspiring story of good in the world!
]]>SARASOTA (FOX 13) – Sarasota County’s sheriff is calling on Florida lawmakers to change the state’s concealed weapons law so that armed retired law enforcement officers and military veterans can be posted on school campuses to improve security.
It is rare to find people who take the bull by the horns like this leader.
Sheriff Tom Knight said Tuesday that his agency already supplies manpower and training to the district, but he believes more can still be done.
The sheriff said specially trained deputies are already available as school resource officers to every middle and high school in the county. It was not immediately clear how this new suggestion would impact that program.
He is pragmatic and knows it will get done.
“This is not an overnight solution but it’s a good place to start,” the sheriff continued. “Many of these veterans have basic training, have managed major incidents and have knowledge of weaponry and tactics.
Parents, administrators, and lawmakers have been scrambling to identify and fix holes in schools’ security since last week’s attack at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
There are a lot of unanswered questions still in Parkland.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said last week that the Parkland campus had an armed officer who never encountered the suspected shooter during the attack.
There was no immediate comment from the school district on the proposal, though Knight said he’d discussed it with superintendent Dr. Todd Bowden “who agrees this can be a win-win for everyone.”
I suggest people start moving faster. Aren’t we all sick of the bullshit politics? While people think about Florida as all sunshine and Sarasota as a perfect place to visit, serious work needs to be done now, to protect our future.

According to Travel and Leisure Miami now ranks number 1 as the rudest city in the USA. Last year it was a runner up. They say it is hard to imagine it is so bad with the weather and beaches, which by the way Miami ranks as one of the best beach getaways.
So what is the deal Miami? What is bugging you guys so much that people think you are not nice? Are you too sunburned, not tan enough or what? This writer has grown up in South Florida. From Miami Beach where I went to high school, to Surfside and Aventura to Boca Raton. There is almost no other place I would rather live.
Miami is a bustling place, multicultural with a plethora of things to do and see. Miami proper or Miami Beach or just South Florida, it is just not that bad.
The finest restaurants, night life, best choice of great hotels with people from all walks of life enjoying themselves. Whether you live here or visit the experience is world renown for the good, and not rudeness.
I have seen rudeness
Anywhere we go we do experience….jerks. I have posted in our rant rave section, things that tick me off. Here is my short list of rudeness, but can you tell me if it is just here or have you seen this anywhere?
- Driving and you put on your blinker to change lanes. The other driver does one of 2 things, speeds up or makes pretend he doesnt see you. Then if you try to squeeze you get a horn blast or a hand gesture.
- The dish at the restaurant was just not that good. I tell the owner, and she says since I ate too much of it (in my face spraying me with saliva) says too bad. That place didn’t stay open long.
- The service dog deal here. Anyone can bring a dog into almost any place in Florida, as long as they register it as a “service” dog. This includes little bitty animals that are really lap dogs, to bigger ones that I have seen laying in a main aisle in an Apple store, and people had to walk around.
However, I would venture to say people have seen this anywhere.
Miami is not so bad at all. It is actually pretty darn good! Come down and enjoy yourself! It will be awesome.

Florida.com’s Perfect Florida Sun Tan Formula.
Follow these 7 steps and walk away with a tan that lasts with no burn.
Florida is a top international destination for sunny weather, beaches, and fun. The quest for the perfect Florida sun tan is part of the lure. Tourists from everywhere come here not only for rest and relaxation but also for that sought-after bronze glow from the Florida sun. It’s no secret that getting the perfect sun tan can be a frustrating process of trial and error. Either you fail to get enough color or you get so much color that you get that dreaded “toasty” look. There are also health concerns with sun tanning like skin cancer, sun burns, and premature skin aging. We all want that sun-varnished look, but not if it means sagging, leathery-looking skin or poor health later in life.
Through those bouts of tanning trial and error, sun bathers have sought and tried countless tips, tricks, products to achieve that golden glow while protecting and nourishing their skin. Through some research, we’ve narrowed down those measures to the top 7 effective strategies that seem to help tanners get the most even-toned, safest sun tan. These 7 steps together make up what we call the Florida Sun Tan Formula, and we’ve actually put this formula to the test. Take careful note of each step below and keep reading to find out what happened when we faithfully applied each step of this Florida Sun Tan Formula.
1. Pre-Tan Hydration & Prep
Your skin will respond better to tanning if it is clean and moisturized. Take a shower first and be sure to use an exfoliant. Exfoliating the skin sloughs off dead skin cells that not only make your skin look flaky and dull but also interfere with getting an even, longer-lasting tan. Try exfoliating with a loofah, brush, or exfoliating scrub like Tyler Madison’s Bushwhacker No. 1975 Salt Polish. This salt polish will not only refresh your skin but also detoxify it with salts, minerals and avocado oil. Follow up with a moisturizing lotion like Palmer’s Cocoa Butter.
2. Sunscreen Protection
The sun gives off two types of ultraviolet (UV) rays: Ultraviolet A (UVA) and Ultraviolet B (UVB). Be sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both types of rays. There are two types of skin-protecting ingredients in sunscreens: chemical and physical. Chemical ingredients are absorbed into the skin and they themselves absorb UV rays before they can reach and damage deep layers of your skin. Common chemical ingredients include avobenzone and benzophenone. The physical ingredients do not penetrate the skin but instead sit on top of it while absorbing, reflecting, and scattering both types of UV rays. Nowadays, there are sunscreen formulas that contain both chemical and physical ingredients. However, sunscreens with only physical ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are also good alternatives for sunbathers who are allergic to chemical sunscreens. Use a screen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. The higher the SPF, the higher the protection level, but do not assume that higher SPF sunscreens are a license to sun bathe for excessively long periods of time. If you tan for too long, you can harm your skin, with or without sunscreen.
Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before tanning to give it time to take effect. Apply the sunscreen generously and evenly, making sure you don’t miss any spots like areas by your ears and around your underarms.
For an all-in-one sunscreen, try Banana Boat’s Ultra Mist Performance Broad Spectrum Sun Care Sunscreen spray. It protects against both UVA and UVB rays, provides 80-minute water resistance, and has an SPF of 30.
3. Keep Moving
Once you’ve found the perfect spot in the sand or by the pool to soak in the sun’s rays, be sure not to stay still. You don’t want one side of your body to be bronzed while the other side is pale and white. Try changing positions every 10 to 15 minutes. Flip from resting on your back to resting on your belly so that you get a full 360-degree tan. If you want to tan without being stationary, try jogging or walking around.
4. Prime Time Tanning
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the sun’s rays are strongest between 10 am and 4 pm, which also means that’s the time span for the highest risk of sun damage. Sun bathe before or after this time range to minimize your risks, whether it’s cloudy outside or not. Aside from the 10 am – 4 pm time span, another way to tell if you should dodge the sun is by the Shadow Rule. According to this rule, if your shadow is shorter than your height, then the sun’s rays are at a high intensity level and therefore more likely to cause sun damage.
5. Take Breaks
One way to avoid being burnt to a crisp in the sun is to take frequent sun breaks while tanning. So maybe in between your position rotations, step out of the sun in small 10-15 minute segments. Also wear protective clothing like hats, beach cover ups, blankets, and jackets.
Protect Your Eyes
It is also vital to protect your eyes from the sun. Your eyes and the skin around them are very vulnerable to sun damage. Believe it or not, your eyes can actually get “sunburned,” in which case the sunburn would be called photokeratitis. UV exposure to eyes has also been shown to worsen cataracts, an eye disease that clouds the eye lens and deteriorates vision. Protect your eyes by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and/or sunglasses with UV400 protection or higher. Sunglasses with UV400 ratings or higher like Tyler Madison’s Bamboo Pilot Shades block 99.9% of UVA and UVB light.
Even with breaks, make sure you do not spend too much time in the sun. According to a Brown University study, the skin starts producing melanin in response to UV rays within a few hours. This melanin, which is what gives skin its tan color, is actually a response to injury from the UV rays to protect the skin from further damage. What this means, unfortunately, is that technically, your skin, even if you don’t feel or see any damage, has been damaged by the sun.
The sun protection level factor of a sunscreen can be used to get an idea of how much protection you’re getting from the sunscreen and also how often you may need to reapply or take a break. For instance, if it takes about 10 minutes for you to get sunburned without any protection, then if you use an SPF 15 sunscreen, you’ll have about 15 x 10 = 150 minutes of protection. If you burn in 20 minutes without protection, then you’ll have 30 x 20 = 600 minutes of protection with an SPF 30 sunscreen.
Overall though, there is no definitive time limit rule on sun tanning, but it is highly recommended that several hours should not be spent in the sun. 20 minutes to 1 hour is usually the time span recommended by dermatologists and medical professionals.
6. Don’t Forget to Reapply
Using sunscreen is pointless if you do not reapply when necessary. Reapply one ounce of sunscreen every two hours. Be sure to reapply more often than that during swimming or heavy sweating. This rule applies even if you’re using a waterproof sunscreen, as water, sweat, or toweling off can remove the product. Remember, you’re still exposed to the sun even in the water and can still get sunburned. To help you remember to reapply, try wearing in a UV detection wristband. These wristbands work by measuring UV ray intensity and change color when you’ve been exposed to the sun for a certain amount of time. You can either reapply sunscreen, take a sun break, or retire from tanning for the day.
7. Post-Tan Care
After exposure to the sun, you want to soothe and replenish your skin of any lost moisture to avoid flaking. Aloe vera is excellent for healing and restoring skin. It contains vitamins, minerals, enzymes and anti-fungal properties that reduce inflammation, accelerate healing, and maintain healthy skin. Lather up with a lotion that contains aloe, like Tyler Madison’s FROTH Skin Shade. This cream not only contains aloe but also natural skin softening emollients like shea butter and sunflower oil. FROTH Skin Shade also doubles as a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15.
BONUS TIP: Inside Out
For optimal sun tan results and healthy skin period, you need to take care of your skin from the inside as well as the outside. Not only do you want to feed and protect your skin with topical products like sunscreens and moisturizers, but you also want to nourish it by consuming healthy foods and supplements that work internally at a cellular level to renew and protect your skin. Again, aloe vera is a go-to choice not only as a topical skin care ingredient but also as a supplement. Aloe vera contains Vitamins A, C, and E, which are known to protect internally against inflammation, wrinkling, and cell aging. Another well-known supplement for skin health is beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is a pigment that is a type of carotenoid, a nutrient found in plants. Beta-carotene contains antioxidants including Vitamin A that protect against cell damage. By protecting against cell damage, this carotenoid helps prevent skin irritations like sunburn that are caused by UV light. Try a natural beta-carotene supplement like Now Natural Beta Carotene that also contains Vitamin E, another antioxidant that fights cell damage. If you don’t like taking pills, you can’t go wrong with getting beta-carotene from foods like spinach, sweet potatoes, carrots and mangoes.
Try it Out!
With the perfect Florida Sun Tan Formula, you’ll cover all the bases for what you need to protect and maintain youthful skin will getting the best sun tan possible. For optimal results, try to carry out all of the steps but do not overdo them (e.g., do not exfoliate skin too aggressively). As for sun exposure, remember that moderation is the key; do not spend several hours or an entire day in the sun. Sunscreen may provide sun protection, but even with reapplication, it cannot protect against overexposure.

When you look at the current condition of the United Sates economy, it won’t take you long to figure out that it’s seen better days. The economic hardships that the country is currently undergoing influence each state, county, and city within, down to even the smallest communities.
These effects stretch far beyond the dip in the average weekly paycheck. American towns, much like the well-known Jacksonville, Florida, are also seeing increases in violence, unemployment, and overall community morale. A logical place to start the journey in eradicating these issues would be the healthcare industry, especially considering it has been named the fastest growing industry in today’s economy. In simpler terms, healthcare is the gold-mine of the average 21st-century American community.
One man has certainly been doing his part to improve his community, and his name is Dr. Albert Chester. There’s been a lot of buzz, lately, surrounding that name, and the name of the institute that has recently launched in the Jacksonville community, The Capstone Institute. The Capstone Institute is a pharmacy tech school that, according to Dr. Chester, doesn’t only strive to train students to become employed as pharmacy technicians, they strive to develop future leaders that will affect positive change in the community. In his eyes, any university or tech school can train someone to be a decent employee, but it takes special care and passionto train someone to be a leader that thinks outside of the box, inspires change, and pushes their community into a positive direction…the latter is the type of experience that The Capstone Institute aims to provide.
What better time to launch such an inspiring project than right now, when the community is a low point, alongside many other American communities? Lieutenant Colonel Ricky L. Pope, USA (Retired), seems to believe that there is no better time. He recently stated: “The Capstone Institute is another ember on the fire of progress within the community. We must continually support such ventures so that the fire will grow stronger”. Dr. Chester agrees because from what he has seen throughout the first session of The Capstone Institute, the community is already responding well to the education and support that the institution is offering.
It is worthy to be noted that all demographics within the community are being affected in a positive way by this new institution, as well as the new way of thinking that it has brought to the citizens of the Jacksonville community. The first class at The Capstone Institute consisted of individuals aged 22 to 56. This is just one of the many indications that The Capstone Institute is sparking inspiration and interest of members of the community across all generations. This is a good thing, considering it will take the wisdom of the older generations in combination with the energy and passion of the younger generations to not simply inspire, but establish in the Jacksonville community and surrounding areas.
Speaking of which, Dr. Chester has proudly announced that he does plan to expand this program outside of the area in which it currently resides. “In 2018”, he says, “we are looking to expand further into Jacksonville, Florida, as well as branch off to other main cities in the state and southeast region.”. It is a refreshing thought for many Americans that an institution with such high aspirations and community support may be coming to a city near their own in the upcoming years. It is the responsibility of the community, within Jacksonville as well as hundreds of miles away, to ensure that this institution, along with the many others that are popping up around the country with similar values, can expand and inspire every individual that is within their capabilities. As the founder himself, Dr. Albert Chester, has said: “The opportunity to change the community must come from within the community.”.
